PROGRAM NOTE

In the commonwealth is a loose setting of Gonzalo’s famous speech from Act 2, Scene 1 of The Tempest. It was created for “The Tempest Project,” an immersive piece conceived and produced by Dave Pay of Music on Main. In the original workshop, there were half a dozen musicians; it is not only acceptable but encouraged to use as many players as desired, and to use the score only as a rough architectural guide.
